Choose to ride either the family-friendly Downtown Route, a dozen car-free miles through the heart of the city, or the full Emerald Necklace Route, a 43-mile journey across several parkways, paths and neighborhoods.  Both routes begin promptly at 8:00 a.m. from the Congress Street Start Line near City Hall Plaza, and feature a CAR-FREE Storrow Drive!

To re-open Storrow Drive in a timely fashion however, any riders not reaching the 10-mile turnaround by 9:30 a.m. will be turned back early.  Many other roads along the Emerald Necklace Route will be open to vehicular traffic.

Ride Marshals and tech support vehicles, as well as city and state police, will be out along the route to assist you as needed.  Additionally, a Ride Safety Hotline will be available this year in case you need to report any technical/medical issues and we will dispatch support.

There is no Rest Stop along the Downtown Route, but there are three official Rest Stops along the longer loop, fueling you up with free drinks and snacks.

Please remember that this is a RIDE, not a race… and will take place rain or shine.  All rules of the road apply, so please stay alert, and ride safely and courteously!

Below are last year’s routes… this year’s routes will be very similar but are still under review by State Police, BPD, DCR and others for final approval and to ensure they are the best routes they can be.

Stay tuned for the final routes, but we can’t wait to have you explore Boston with us!
