Additional Ride Information
Whether you have ridden for each of the past 14 years or are contemplating joining in for the first time, we look forward to seeing you early on the morning of Sunday, September 15th on City Hall Plaza!
This citywide bike ride is fully supported, and offers a chance for you to explore Boston's harbor views and hidden pathways, river greenways and vibrant neighborhoods. You haven’t seen the Hub until you’ve seen it on two wheels!
THE ROUTES: Both the Downtown and Emerald Necklace routes begin promptly at 8:00 a.m. from the Start Line on Congress Street, and both courses will access a CAR-FREE Storrow Drive. To re-open Storrow Drive in a timely fashion, anyone not reaching the Storrow Drive turnaround point by 9:30 a.m. will be turned back early. Please be advised that several roadways along the longer course are open to vehicle traffic, so we ask all riders to obey the rules of the road.
REGISTRATION PACKET/BIB: Riders who register prior to Labor Day (Monday, September 2) will have their rider packet (including bib number and parking coupon) mailed to them at the address provided in their application. Riders who registered after 12:00am on Tuesday, September 3, or have not received their bib number in the mail for any reason, can pick up their packet at City Hall Plaza.
Packet Pick Up Times on City Hall Plaza:
Saturday, Sept 14, 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. at the Boston Social Fitness Festival
Sunday, Sept 15, 6:30 a.m. - 7:45 a.m. on the morning of the ride
CANCELLATIONS: Please be advised that Hub On Wheels takes place rain or shine. We understand that sometimes personal circumstances come up that may force you to be unable to participate in the ride. We regret that no refund for cancellations can be made after August 15, 2018. However, your registration may be transferred to another person up to 48 hours in advance of the ride (by Friday, September 13 at 10:00 a.m.), providing your replacement adheres to the same set of ride requirements and completes all necessary permission paperwork. In the event that weather conditions pose a danger to participants and the ride is canceled, the organizer’s liability is limited to refund of the ride registration fee only. Please contact email@example.com to process a transfer, or for additional information or questions.
RIDE DAY PARKING: If you need to drive into the event, park in the vicinity of City Hall Plaza. Street parking in Boston is free on Sundays. How nice is that?! If you can’t find street parking or if you prefer to park in a garage, the Dock Square Garage (20 Clinton Street) has offered parking for just $9. Scan the QR code below using your cell phone or click the link below and it will take you to a website to make your advance reservation. Remember to remove your bike from roof racks before entering a garage!! https://bit.ly/2lzipID
ON-COURSE SUPPORT: Please remember that this is a RIDE and not a race! Ride Marshals and tech support vehicles, as well as city and state police, will be out along the route to assist you as needed. Additionally, should you need attention at any point along the course, you will be provided with our Ride Safety Hotline to report any technical/medical issues and we will dispatch support.
RIDING WITH CHILDREN: Cyclists must be 16 years or older to ride the Emerald Necklace Route. Children under 16 may participate only if riding with an adult on a tandem, trail-a-bike, bike seat, or trailer. Children 8-17 may ride the Downtown Route for FREE, but must register online as an official rider, and must be accompanied by a registered adult rider.
NEED A BIKE? Don’t have a bike but still want to ride? Reserve a bike today by contacting our official bike rental partner, Urban Adventours, at (617) 670‑0637 or at www.urbanadventours.com.
REST STOPS: There will be three (3) Rest Stops along the Emerald Necklace Route, located at Arnold Arboretum, on Neponset River Trail at Granite Ave. and at Carson Beach on Day Blvd., fueling you up with free drinks and snacks. There is no Rest Stop on the shorter Downtown Route.
POST-RIDE FESTIVAL: After you’ve pedaled down car-free Storrow Drive and beyond, you’ll be welcomed back at City Hall Plaza with some post-ride fun! Boloco is back again this year with a free burrito for all riders, and the Beer Garden, presented by New Belgium Brewing, will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. For your convenience, a bike valet and bag drop will be available to store your belongings while you enjoy the festival.
CHARITABLE BENEFICIARY: This year, Hub On Wheels is proud to support Boston Children's Hospital, with $5 of your registration fee automatically going to support the efforts to find a cure for pediatric cancer. Please consider donating additional funds to the cause during the registration process, or click here to become a Hope Rider and/or create your own fundraising team.
